Wolf Awareness Week

Are YOU aware that wolves:

i) play an important role in maintaining the ballance and health of entire ecosystems?

ii)are hunted leniently across Canada, EVEN the Eastern wolf, Canis lycaon, which was designated as a species at risk by Canada's SARA in 2001? www.cpaws-ov-vo.org/eastern_wolf_e.html

iii) are often killed by humans even INSIDE national parks by vehicles and trains on the only land that Canada has designated as protected for wolves?

iv)are being targeted for planned predator culls in what remains of BC caribou territory, when wolf culls have lead to problems in the past.

The Canadian Wolf Coalition is concerned about ALL of these issues, and would like to see them addressed with your help.
Please CHOOSE to get involved. Canada’s wolves and inherent wilderness can’t wait!

What YOU can do:
1.       Meet with your MLA and become involved at a local level.
          Create awareness!

2.      Write a “Letter to the editor” to raise wolf awareness.

3.      Write or call your provincial representative to see hunting
restrictions put into place around National Parks
-(check out the Buffer Zone Campaign at www.northernlightswildlife.com)

4. Write Federal Minister of the Environment Jim Prentice to demand         that he fulfill the requirements of Canada’s Species At Risk Act and
implement a species recovery plan and program for the Eastern
wolf. Urge him to take pro-active measures in protecting the rest of
Canada’s unique and diverse wolf population by creating a National
   Wolf Management Strategy.

5. Write BC Minister of Environment Barry Penner to let him know that wolf
culls are not the answer! Stop mining. Stop use of recreational
vehicles. Augment herds. Don’t kill one animal to save another…

6. Join the Canadian Wolf Coalition

7. LEARN about wolves!
