Hunters should be mad too!

What type of culture are we here in BC? How do we want the world to view us? If you read the article by Larry Pynn Sunday July 27th questioning the concept of “Fair Chase” in BC hunting regulations, or “Running with the Wolves” from the May edition of Camp Talk, put together by the Dallas Safari Club, you will soon realize that BC residents and non-residents engage in unethical if not illegal hunting practices.   While hunting is still an important part of many Canadian’s way of life, this incident violates the concept of “Fair Chase”, which most hunters and hunting organizations ascribe to.  Visitors are invited to come to our country and spend their money harassing and shooting Canadian wildlife, notably top predators such as wolves which are important in maintaining balance within ecosystems, as well as being extremely intelligent and social animals.

Hopefully, the tragedy that occurred to this wolf family will help expose the extremely lax hunting regulations on wolves in BC. The article illustrates that Wicked River Outfitters is not hunting in a sustainable way, not a conservation-based way, nor giving fair chase. Such practices need to be exposed because this tarnishes the ideals of responsible hunting and wildlife management. Whether chasing animals with no chance to escape and then killing them is legal or not, it is certainly NOT ethical. If these activities are illegal then these people need to be prosecuted. If this was all legal, then laws need to be changed! I await the comments and course of action that the ministry will supply after reviewing the incident.

This outfitter should not be allowed to exploit wildlife, and should certainly not be celebrated for doing so!
